First, the difference between booking fees and sea freight

1. Booking Fee

Booking fee refers to the fee paid by the cargo owner or freight forwarder to the shipping company or shipping agent when confirming the use of a certain route or a certain ship. This fee is mainly used to reserve space for the cargo and ensure the preparation of relevant documents. A booking fee is usually a service fee that covers the cost of related operations.

Space reservation: To ensure that the cargo can be reserved on a specific transport flight or ship.

Service fee: As a service fee provided by the shipping company or airline, covering a series of operations and services during the booking process.

(3) Operating costs: including the costs of various procedures and operations related to cargo booking.

2. Ocean Freight

Sea freight refers to the cost paid by shippers to transport goods from one port to another. This includes transportation, vessel chartering, fuel surcharges and other costs. Sea freight rates are based on the volume or weight of the cargo, as well as the pricing policies of the route and shipping company.

① Transportation cost: The basic transportation cost calculated by the shipping company according to the volume, weight and transportation distance of the goods.

② Port fees: including loading and unloading fees, port fees and other fees related to port operations and services.

Fuel surcharge: Considering the fluctuation of fuel prices, shipping companies may add additional fuel surcharges.

2. Why does the booking fee not include sea freight?

Different nature of service: Booking fee is a payment for the services provided by the shipping company or shipping agent, covering the cost of ensuring that the cargo has the appropriate space and the corresponding booking work. While sea freight is covered by the actual cost of shipping goods.

2 Flexibility and service: The payment of booking fees ensures the space of the cargo, but the specific amount of sea freight will be affected by a variety of factors, such as fuel prices, seasonal changes, etc. Separating the two helps to provide a more flexible, personalised service and to adjust shipping costs according to the actual situation.

Booking costs: Booking fees are mainly used to pay for the operating costs required to book the goods, including system processing, document preparation, etc., and these are not directly related to the actual transport distance or cost of the goods.

④ Independent billing items: booking fees and sea freight are two independent billing items, representing different services and costs. Separating them helps to get a clear picture of what constitutes each cost.

3. Examples of booking fees and sea freight

Take the leisure packing booking service as an example (search the "Leisure packing" booking service offers and special routes), the booking fee is usually between $50 and $200, depending on the route, cabin tightness and other factors. Sea freight rates vary according to different routes and types of cargo.

For example, shipping a 20-foot standard container from Shanghai to Los Angeles can cost between $1,500 and $3,000, depending on seasonal fluctuations, capacity and other factors.

4. Professional shipping booking service

Provide professional shipping booking services, clear booking fees and sea freight difference. At the booking stage, the customer pays the booking fee to ensure that the cargo has the appropriate shipping space and corresponding services. Sea freight is flexibly determined according to the actual transport distance, cargo type, route and other factors.

There are obvious differences between booking fees and sea freight in the nature of the service and the timing of payment. Understanding the difference between the two helps shippers better plan and control transportation costs.
